Rise of the Planet of Apes: It’s all about mobile
ET in the house
I was talking to this 16 year old intern at my office the other day, and it dawned on me how so different we were in many subtle yet significant ways. We might as well have been human and ape having a convo.
Her clothes were definitely monkeyish ’cos its focus seemed geared towards revealing her protruding buttocks. But my apparent stupidity at handling new technology made me wonder if I wasn’t the monkey in the scenario. We had been talking the past hour about a range of issues and even though her naiveté was still evident under her broad grin, it was amazing how dexterous and flexible her mind was.
It was like she was some sort of super human-alien-thingy adapting to life on a strange planet. Her mind could grasp in seconds; concepts that many of her older colleagues would take days and weeks to understand but struggle with the most basic concepts. Like why fools fall in love for instance.
That set me thinking: “if the future belongs to people like her; then what’s my place in that future?” Have I been sentenced to a lifetime of living and competing with a race of super-minded aliens that dress different, talk different, look different and think different than me?
Walk in my shoes a while
If you were caught up in my mental predicament, what would you do? Would you:
a. Equip yourself with the right tools to deal with challenges of the said future by preparing yourself and adapting to the times or-
b. Would you scratch yourself in the nether regions and go to sleep?
Send your answers to unus@chaostheorycreative.com (just in case there are insights hidden in the nether regions)
But seriously, the fact of the matter is that the future will mostly be inhabited by a race of super humans with amazing mental capacities which have evolved past your present ability. And even more terrifying than that, these people will be able to use gadgets and technology in ways you cannot begin to comprehend. Well… unless you can adapt.
The future is mobile
“The future is mobile” is a mantra we’ve been chanting for quite a while now, but how many of us are getting ready for a mobile future? The only way we can survive in the future is by adapting to it now.
Here are a few of the ways Chaos Theory is focusing on mobile:
We’ve adopted a multi-disciplinary approach to mobile
The Chaos Theory team displays a wide range of expertise ranging from marketing to design to programming. We also have working for us arm chair psychologists, bedroom art connoisseurs, living room sport enthusiasts and full time megalomaniacs.
But still, everyone at Chaos Theory is encouraged to develop expertise in mobile in some way (irrespective of department, discipline, role or title).
The moral of the story is that our job titles no longer matter and our roles are flexible. The only constant thing is that we focus our varied talents on delivering value on mobile.
We integrate mobile into larger strategic initiatives
We weren’t really sure about mobile when we started Chaos Theory. But today, we make sure we integrate a mobile programme of some sort into whatever larger picture integrated digital effort we’re involved in.
The truth is that on this one, we don’t have a choice. If you talk to the average 16 year old Nigerian kid, you’ll realize we’re already living in that mobile future
We really had to ask ourselves these honest questions:
1. How comprehensive is our mobile service offerings?
Answer: At Chaos Theory, we already develop and design mobile-responsive apps but we realize that we can also focus on mobile advertising design, development and measurement.
Already, several international mobile advertising platforms have a presence in Nigeria and Chaos Theory is currently looking into ways of taking full advantage of this. For instance we’ve made preliminary contact with the likes of Inmobi
2. How much experience do we have in mobile?
Answer: Even though two and a half years in mobile is an eternity in Nigeria, we realize we can always do with more experience. This means we fully embrace all mobile opportunities that come our way
3. How much of our revenue is from mobile?
Answer: We could tell you. But then, we’d have to kill you. Sorry.
4. How well do our peers and the market know of our mobile work?
Answer: This was a painful one to answer. The answer implied that we had a lot more work to do. The good thing is that this answer also directly led to two of our most ambitious projects yet. More details on these mobile based projects soon.
If you want to know more about the mad cap world of marketing and the internet, why don’t you talk to the Chaos Theory team? We’ll gladly proffer up some mobile solutions to help resolve some of the chaos your brand or business might be facing.
PS: we hope you read this article on your mobile device

Nice write up, its said how futuristic we are and yet so backwards. I studied Theatre Arts back in UI and my project was on 3D Animation case study Avatar, Lecturers went ballistic. Theatre Arts – 3D what’s the link. Am sure you know but most of them felt I was chasing a storm. Of course I passed cos my projected was loaded. The future is what we decide to make it only if we can SEE might sound naïve but an invention like the Ipad was once futuristic. Fin
